Alright, some clarifications on Live Photos and RAW after some of you pointed it out:

    – Live Photos are visible on the iPhone, but functionality is limited to export video (no frame changing, or loop animations).
    – Also, Live Photos didn't seem to work cross-device. A Live Photo on my iPhone doesn't show up as Live on the web version, and I didn't find a way to export the original from web or Android.
    – Some RAW photos are supported, such as the DNG format. However, the standard sony ARW format is not. I found problems with support for Canon CR2 as well.
    – Furthermore, there are no additional editing tools for RAW photos. Apple does provide some additional exposure settings when the image is in RAW.

Temporarily using both apps while transitioning to Apple. I used to use Pixel devices but after a bad user-experience, followed by PIxelbook awful user-experience & hardware failure only ~5 weeks after 1yr warrentee, followed by awful Google support experience, I sold ALL my Google products and moved over to Apple for the 1st time in my life. Lesson learned! I'm transitioning to Apple photos. The one thing I really like about Google photos is you can write a descriptive word edit of the pic so you can go back and search it a LOT easier. This seems to be a fundamental thing I hope Apple photos does with upgrades!!!

I had trouble in moving Family movies from Google Photos to Apple Photos. I talked to Apple support about how to do this and they explained that Apple has limitations because of Torrent movies. Only short movies are allowed. Also I need to mention that these movies can be stored in the same albums.

Google photos is just more easier to use. I mean, with time, anyone can learn both the apps intensively but Google Photos, for me, took a few minutes to figure out. It's just so much easier and it being on Android and Apple means in future all I need to do is install the App and the photos and videos are just there. It's just more accessibility. I just can't bother to try to master whatever maybe hidden feature on Apple Photos as Google Photos just has everything for my need.

Always Google photos… I have over 26,000 photos uploaded to Google photos and I can't imagine paying for them 🤣🤣. They are of good quality as Google Photos support up to 16MP without compression I think.

O365 is another service too. You get Office and 1 TB of storage for photos as well as files. These photos are saved as-is to instead of being compressed by google photos.

also using both for exactly same reasons (except raw) – a very nice assistant on google , a live photo and memories feature on apple. everything is setup the way that my apple photos are synced to google backup and it just works. also using paid plans both for apple and google (it is a price of a couple breakfasts in Tim Hortons for the WHOLE month, so come on, it is no that expensive) and the last reason you have not mentioned (well you sort of had) is that even though both are clouds and super secure BUT if ONE account is hacked I still have a second account for immediate actions

Excellent pro and con video, learned things i didnt know. In my own experience I just went through a known problem with Apple iCloud syncing with my devices where iCloud ended up using hundreds of gigs per month of data usage. With my 180 gig per month plan this could have been a catastrophe. Apparently Google Photos does not have this problem. As well in terms of security Google Photos is free because you are giving up some of your privacy. Although they do not share your identity they do share a lot of the raw data in your pictures with their advertisers. As you upload pictures, you can be sure to get some highly targeted ads popping up on your screen which are spookily related to the subject of your pictures.

Unless it was changed recently, Google’s free unlimited option stores pics in up to 16MP and video up to 1080p. For smartphone users, this is all you need for photos since no smartphone, especially Apple iPhones, shoots pics higher than12MP. Unless you really need .RAW compatibility from a DSLR or shoot videos on your phone at 4K, you don’t need to move to the paid plans.

AVOID Apple Photos. I've had nothing but issues with Apple's cloud service. They don't let you use their iCloud service for online storage only. There has to be a copy of whatever you upload to iCloud on your PC or Mac, or more specifically, the PC's iCloud folder. I suppose they would be liable if your data was ever lost as the company doesn't make backups. So if your intention is to free up space on your hard drive, expect issues. If you try and get around this by deleting content from your PC's iCloud folder after it's uploaded, it will automatically delete it from iCloud as well.

Apple Photos becomes buggy if you upload more than 500+ photos. If you want to delete your photos on an iOS device, it has to be done on a one-by-one basis. There is no delete all option for iOS or the iCloud website. The iMac has a delete all option, but if you try and delete more than 500 at once, it will crash. It took me days to delete all my photos from iCloud and then I had to delete them from the Recently Deleted folder afterwards, which was just as difficult. Apple's buggy nature meant that after it re-syncronised after they deleted, it sometimes returned all the photos as blank grey boxes, which took up the same amount of space as they did previously.

Look, I like Google and all but I really don't want my memories to be compressed, even if they're just for memory purposes. Do you think Apple will ever improve and create an unlimited option – even if it's a paid subscription?

If the photos on your phone are private or confidential (receipts, credit card number, etc), why put it on google cloud? Isn't that dangerous? Just asking!

I have both services and definitely prefer Google Photos by far over iCloud just for the simple fact it is supported across all devices unlike iCloud being tied to Apple only. That one reason alone should make an easy decision for anyone. Any other reason they’re very comparable including pricing and storage for premium. In short, iCloud is unnecessary.

Apple Photos …will always make an exact copy of your photo library and will continue to match your photo library.
So when you delete from your iPhone library on your phone it will be deleted from the iCloud storage. 🙁
Not so with Google Photos. Once you put your photos on Google they stay there forever unless you expressly delete them on Google Photos. It doesn’t matter what you do on your personal devices. Your photos won’t suddenly disappear from your storage.
